To be black&brown “professionals” performing our individual versions of femininity feels in many ways affirming and powerful. It also (unfortunately) means encountering and having to arm ourselves with responses to racist, cissexist, misogynist attitudes and remarks that are entrenched in colonial-subject-master ideologies. Pleased to report that we are getting sassier and better at it all the time.
